twitter rate limits changes

For the last couple of days loudtwitter is working in a degraded state because Twitter arbitrarily changed its rate limits.

To get your tweets loudtwitter is pulling the information from your public page, which worked well until the change. Now one computer can only fetch tweets a few times per day. Since there are 10.000 accounts on loudtwitter it doesn't really work. I've contacted twitter about that issue, and I'm waiting to hear from there.

Stay tuned.

Almost one year

I've just renewed loudtwitter's domain (thanks to donations), which remind me that loudtwitter is now almost one year old!

Some news. 1300+ users

Long time no talk.

I've been quite busy with other projects lately, but in the meantime loudtwitter quietly and largely past the 1000 user count. In fact, as of today there are 1300 registered users. YAY!

I didn't expect that much interest - especially from LJ community when I started this little project for a friend, but I'm glad loudtwitter makes your life easier. I have to apologize for being slow on adding features despite many requests. There are two reasons for that: I'm very busy with my $dayjob and I don't use Loudtwitter myself. So it's hard to make the decision to add a feature or not: is it really useful? Is it worth my time?

Anyway, I've just added the ability to add text *before* the post in addition to *after*. Among other things it will allow LJ users to use the LJ-cut feature that popefelix described to me.

And in case you missed it, loudtwitter suffered from a large spam attack two days ago, so email posting was down for a while. I hate spammers.

Dogfood !

Loudtwitter server has been attacked via lots of SPAM two days ago. It looks like it's not completely back up... I'll look at this today

email posting should be back again. Sorry for the inconvenience. If you cross a spammer, please kill it for me!

Dogfood !

/Sorry/ (Hiro Nakamura style): I messed up with your tweets... tinyurl.com/23m6hf

Oops, outage for few hours

All my bad, I switched from the "production" database to the "test" database... which resulted in new users not taken into account and double posting (no case reported so far, but that could have happened). Sorry for the inconvenience!

There is more than one way to loudtwitt

As a twitter user, you probably have been bothered by one of your contact saying

@bob tx!

You don't even know "bob"! But that ability of temporarily switching from a one-to-many to a one-to-one communication is part of the beauty of twitter, so you probably do it also. That's why LoudTwitter is now offering you the option of not posting these replies to your blog.

LoudTwitter lets you also get rid off timestamped bullet style lists. Your tweets will taste less twitter and more blog.

This kind of post is now possible:

Gorgeous sun in Potrero Hill. Will ride my bike to Golden Gate park.

Ran into my sister and her girlfriend, had good times with the dogs.

Cooking goat cheese tarte and crumble for dinner with Brad Pitt. Will probably have dinner on the deck by the pool with cats lurking.

Enjoy!

Using Loudtwitter with private twitter account?

araceli suggested to allow Loudtwitter with private twitter account, I see two ways of doing that:

  • Require you to share your twitter password (easy)
  • Ask you to follow loudtwitter in your twitter (that way loudtwitter has access to your private content... it's a bit harder to setup)

Both methods require to fetch the content using authentication regarding to Twitter API, which I'm afraid will get me some troubles (I think Twitter puts some limit on how often you can pull protected content from a single IP address).

What method would you prefer?
